Department of Strategic Management, Marketing and Tourism

The University was founded in 1669 and is the biggest and most important research and education institution in western Austria, today comprised more than 28.000 students and more than 4.500 staff and faculty members. The team of the Department of SMT consists of long-time scientific employees, who have all a wide-ranging expertise in the range of information and communication technology and service design. Examples of projects, which gained these expertise are “gAALaxy”, “FairCare”, “West-AAL” (AAL Test Region western Austria), “Seconet” (Senior Competence Network), “2PCS” (Personal Protection & Caring System) and “HyCat” (Hybrid Care Technologies).

The vision of research and development cooperation is based on designing, creating, analyzing and customizing demand-oriented and sustainable solutions for society and economy. Professional competences involve: holistic process-oriented innovation and project management, scientific capabilities like qualitative and quantitative requirements and behavioral analysis with active involvement of the end users, Design Science Methods including software development competences etc., standardization and clustering of products and services, business model design and planning, quality and environmental management and also topics of new public management.




Institute for Public Management

Eurac Research was founded in 1992 as a private research center with 12 employees, who research in ranges of language and legislation, minority and autonomy and also in alpine environment. Gradually the activities of the center spread to new ranges, attract scientific researchers from all parts of the globe and initiated new structures. Today there are almost 300 scientists from over 30 countries.

With our research, we oppose the challenges of the future: People need health, energy, efficient political and social systems and also an intact environment. We are searching for answers to complex questions, cooperating in many different disciplines including three large subject areas: livable regions, variety through value and healthy society. The aim of our work is to improve the future life of people. It is common, that we develop concrete solutions for regional problems, which can be used elsewhere; we are aspiring to achieve new ways with excellent research work and are oriented towards human needs.

In terms of international competition, even public administrations are challenged to prove their performances. Citizens, companies, and politicians expect quality orientation, transparency and accounting control. Innovative public administrations need to think and act management oriented and use modern information and communication technologies (E-Government).
The Department of Public Management attend public administrations in terms of preparation and implementation of innovation and places great importance on practical relevance. Scientists create solutions for actual challenges in the public administration with studies, scientific support and customized qualification offers.
