Department of Strategic Management, Marketing and Tourism

The University was founded in 1669 and is the biggest and most important research and education institution in western Austria, today comprised more than 28.000 students and more than 4.500 staff and faculty members. Located in the heart of the Alps, the University of Innsbruck offers the best conditions for successful research and teaching, and international rankings confirm the University’s leading role in basic research.

The team of the Department of SMT consists of long-time scientific employees, who have all a wide-ranging expertise in the range of information and communication technology and service design. Examples of projects, which gained these expertise are “gAALaxy”, “FairCare”, “West-AAL” (AAL Test Region western Austria), “Seconet” (Senior Competence Network), “2PCS” (Personal Protection & Caring System) and “HyCat” (Hybrid Care Technologies).

The vision of research and development cooperation is based on designing, creating, analyzing and customizing demand-oriented and sustainable solutions for society and economy. Professional competences involve: holistic process-oriented innovation and project management, scientific capabilities like qualitative and quantitative requirements and behavioral analysis with active involvement of the end users, Design Science Methods including software development competences etc., standardization and clustering of products and services, business model design and planning, quality and environmental management and also topics of new public management.

 

 

EURAC RESEARCH - WHO WE ARE 

Institute for Public Management

Eurac Research was founded in 1992 as an association under private law with just twelve members of staff undertaking research in the areas of Language and Law, Minorities and Autonomous Regions as well as the Alpine Environment. Today, over 500 people from 35 countries conduct their research at Eurac Research.

Our research addresses the greatest challenges of the future: keeping societies healthy, fostering intact environments, promoting sustainable energy and developing well-functioning political and social systems. Seeking answers through interaction between a variety of disciplines, we develop concrete solutions for regional problems which can then be applied globally. We continually strive to open new paths with science and innovation, by responding to society’s complex questions with answers geared to the needs of people.

The Institute for Public Management supports public administrations in the preparation and implementation of innovations. The Institute places the highest value on practical relevance. Through studies, scientific support and tailor-made qualification offers for managers, the Institute develops solutions for the current challenges of public administration. In the field of AAL, the Institute has been involved in various local and international projects since 2011 (including 2PCS - Personal Protection & Caring System, gAALaxy, i-evAALution). The core competences are planning and implementing user tests and field studies, evaluation and data analysis, as well as the development of service and business models.
